Nixyaawii Community School is currently accepting applications to fill the position of Behavioral Support Specialist.

Salary Range $45,000-$50,000

4 days/week

Start Aug. 2

180 day contract

Extended duty days will be Fridays and school breaks (stipend will be paid for these)

Teaching Licence preferred

3-5 years of High School classroom experience preferred

Behavioral Support Specialist

Job Duties

• Advocate for all families at Nixyaawii Community School.
• Work closely with students, teachers, and principal to ensure the mental health needs of all students is being met.
• Frequent contact with parents/guardians on attendance, grades and behavior.
• Write referrals to Yellowhawk and DCFS when needed.  
• Work one-on-one and/or small groups of students on a regular schedule during the school day, Friday’s, school breaks, and summer months.
• Track performance towards graduation. (Attendance, grades, behavior, attitude)
• Plan and attend “Students of Concern” meetings”
• Schedule and perform home visits when needed.
• Work with tribal truancy and Title VI Coordinator.
• Supervise classrooms when needed.
• Assist with developing mentor program.
• Assist with planning and supervising field trips.
• Working through minor discipline issues with students.
• Other duties as assigned.
