Purpose Statement:
Working in collaboration with colleagues, the Behavior Support Specialist will support a school and classroom environment that provides a positive learning experience for all students.
Essential Functions
- Implement individual and small group interventions to support student needs in a safe and non-judgmental environment.
- Assist school administrators and educators with planning and carrying out school-related programs and events
- Facilitate crisis intervention and prevention programs
- Collaborate with teachers, parents and administrators on an ongoing basis about behavioral and academic problems
- Build a foundation of positive relationships, high expectations, and equitable systems.
- Actively support a productive climate of collaboration
- Communicate and coordinate regularly with parents, legal guardians, community partners and students to develop meaningful collaboration between home and school.
- Facilitate supports for students and families in need.
- Other duties to directly support student services
Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Building Administrator.
Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, School Counseling or related field, or working towards degree attainment.
- Experience working with students
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advocate for equity, inclusion and professional practices that ensure all students achieve at high levels.
- Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students.
- Skill in classroom management, student discipline and developing positive techniques for improving student behavior.
- Must possess a positive attitude about change and an eagerness to implement changes that will enhance student learning.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with a variety of students, staff, and community in a multicultural, and diverse socio-economic setting.
- Ability to participate collaboratively in teams.
- Ability to participation in staff development to maintain professional skills.
- Ability to serve as a role model and treat students as individuals in a professional manner.
Licenses/Special Requirements
- Must maintain all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment.
- Completed Employment Application/ Background Check.
- Must complete Safe schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.
Pay Levels: Athena-Weston Salary Schedule - dependent on degree achievement
