Description

Primary role is coordinating services and building partnerships with community/county/state agencies and school districts to protect and improve the health needs of all students. In accordance with OAR 581-022-0705 the registered nurse works to promote the health of students through prevention, case findings, early intervention and remediation of specific health problems. Comprehensive Health Services assist school districts to clearly identify the healthcare needs of ALL students (3 through 21 years). Provide school and ESD staff with guidance, training and education with medically involved students, including students with special education and 504 plans

 

KNOWLEDGE:

            QUALIFICATIONS:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility and essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Individual will hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable, insured transportation.

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a four-year College or University preferred
  • Two (2) years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Hold a current Oregon Registered Nurse license or ability to obtain the license
  • First Aid/CPR training certificate
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license
  • TSPC licensure as school nurse preferred

  • Ability to apply knowledge of computer usage and ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database software as well as Email and Internet
  • Proficient in the use of computer, Internet based applications and variety of software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Google, Pentamation, Power School, and Special Education Records Management System
  • Ability to maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to agency records and data, student families, colleagues, or district patrons; Use or relay personal and agency information only in the course of performing assigned responsibilities and in the best interest of the individuals involved
  • Exhibit cultural competency and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:.

     Planning and Preparation:

  1. Displays knowledge of or is able to research etiology and characteristics of relevant medical conditions
  2. Use knowledge of normal developmental sequences and learning patterns in the areas of sensory, motor, psychosocial and cognitive development to develop Health Management Plans
  3. Prepares and maintains records, charts and reports including Medicaid forms

 

     Implementation:

  1. Plans, prioritizes and organizes assignments and projects with a minimum of supervision
  2. Effectively manages, evaluates and modifies needed school health programs and Health Management Plans
  3. Completes Medicaid forms, as necessary
  4. Instructs individuals and/or family members on various nursing techniques

 

     Assessment and Use of Assessment Information:

  1. Writes necessary assessment summaries and recommendations in a clear, informative and timely manner
  2. Use assessment data to establish appropriate Health Management Plans, training goals and objectives or school services
  3. Develops, selects and uses appropriate assessment tools and interprets results effectively
  4. Writes necessary assessment summaries and recommendations in a clear, informative and timely manner
  5. Uses medical information to inform school teams about potential medical results that will affect programming

 

     Communication:

  1. Abide by all HIPPA laws and maintain confidentially of clients and services provided at schools and Umatilla County Health sites
  2. Instructs classes on student Health Management Plans/protocols
  3. Communicates clearly and effectively in a variety of situations, including difficult ones, with agency staff, district staff and the public
  4. Provides service coordination to parents and children including referrals to other agencies for care issues, as necessary

  • This position requires travel throughout the IMESD service area.
