These positions are part of the SPURS program and will be located in the communities of Boardman, Heppner, Ione and Irrigon. Please note the application instructions to be sure you obtain and submit ALL required documents for these positions.

 

Students will work up to 15 hours per week during school days.

 

APPLICATION Requirements

Application materials must be submitted to school counselor during class schedule forecasting. The following items are required in order to be considered for a paid mentoring position:

  • Mentor Application 
  • Teacher Recommendation Form
  • Mentor Matching Questionnaire
  • Interview with CCS Student Mentor Coordinator
  • Must be Junior or Senior to qualify for paid position

 

Applications and other forms can be obtained from your school counselor and must be submitted to them as well.

 

 

Objective

As a student mentor you will participate in the Students Providing Understanding and Respectful Support (SPURS) mentoring program offered by the Morrow County School District and Community Counseling Solutions. SPURS is a mentoring program that pairs high school students with elementary school students in order to help improve academic achievement, social/emotional skills, and behavior. Our goal is that mentees walk away from the experience feeling empowered about their ability to positively transform their lives. As a mentor you will serve as a positive friend or role model in your mentees life.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop rapport with mentee and provide 1:1 support
  • Identify areas that mentee needs to improve on and set goals for progress
  • Attend daily sessions with mentee during assigned class period
  • Participate in team meetings and orientation with supervisor as needed
  • Complete required paperwork as needed including tracking sheets, surveys, and timesheets according to deadlines assigned
  • Communicate with school staff to meet needs of student
  • Maintain confidentiality unless mentee is in danger or at risk for harm to self or others
