We are hiring for the following two positions:

  • Part-time 19.5 hours per week
  • Full time 40 hours per week

SUMMARY: 

Performs the duties of an educational assistant, taking direction from a teacher, special education specialists or related provider to maximize the learning of children with a variety of abilities and disabilities.  Assists students in developing independence in all aspects of the instructional program.

                                                                                                                                                   

KNOWLEDGE:

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility and essential function satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Individual will hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable, insured transportation.

 

EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE:

    • High School Diploma
    • Current Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate, AA degree in Early Childhood Education, para-educator certificate program preferred

 

 

SKILLS:

 

  • Current CPR card or the ability to obtain and maintain certification
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English and Spanish fluently preferred
  • Effective basic computer skills and ability to learn appropriate computer software
  • Experience or knowledge of developmentally delayed students
  • Demonstrated patience, warmth, and capacity for acceptance of children with special needs
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to assess situations and act swiftly and appropriately and with sound judgment for the safety and wellbeing of students and staff
  • Ability to work independently and work harmoniously with others
  • Exhibit cultural competency and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Meet the learning needs of individual students by assisting the consulting teacher in planning and implementing instructional strategies appropriate to students.
  2. Carry out team designed programs as prescribed for the child by the IESP or IFSP team
  3. Use learning activities designed to meet the needs outlined in IFSP’s and in accordance with stated objectives
  4. Keep accurate record of activities and objectives for students
  5. Cooperate with specialists and consulting teacher in setting up and maintaining student files, scheduling parent meetings and participate in those meetings at consulting teacher’s request
  6. Use Positive Behavior Support program in and outside the classroom setting and manage discipline problems fairly and in accordance with ESD board policies, the student’s individual family service plan and legal requirements; thereby ensuring the safety, care, security and welfare of the students
  7. Give clear directions and ensure student understanding
  8. Present educational programs imaginatively and in a manner that captures attention, maintains interest and motivates students
  9. Use time and materials effectively in relation to lesson goals and objectives
  10. Assist students with toileting and/or changing diapers, respecting all students’ need for privacy
  11. Identify and report to classroom teacher any changes in the child’s condition that may necessitate an adjustment in their therapy program
  12. Assist students with implementation of self-help skills in an effort to help each student achieve self-management skills
  13. Maintain classroom learning activity and schedule under consulting teacher authority
  14. Assist in the administration, scoring and recording of tests and data including written, oral and physical data.
  15. Perform other reasonable duties that from time to time may be assigned to meet the usual and unusual demands placed on the organization.

    • Follow all IMESD policies, work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority
    • Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to data, students, parents, staff or IMESD patrons
    • Fulfill duties associated with Mandatory Reporting for suspected child abuse or neglect.
    • Have regular and punctual attendance at work and work activities, punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, following schedules, respond to management directions and solicits feedback to improve performance
    • Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position
    • Educational Assistants may be required to travel to and from school locations in the IMESD service area.
