QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility and essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Individual will hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable, insured transportation.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE / EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s Degree
- Completion of the American Speech and Hearing Association’s (ASHA) certificate of clinical competence (CCC) OR
- License as a Speech-Language Pathologist from the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
RESPONSIBILITIES and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Planning and Preparation:
- Plans, organizes and conducts appropriate conferences with district staff, agencies, IMESD Special Programs staff and parents to carry out program objectives
- Participates as a member of IFSP and IEP teams
- Prepare and utilize materials and equipment to effectively meet individual student learning needs
- Provides information and recommendation to classroom teachers and para-professionals to maximize inclusion of students with severe disabilities to effectively meet individual student learning needs
- Develops appropriate goals and objectives for each student
- Design materials to supplement curriculum
- Coordinates with audiologists for audiological support
- Identifies community resources to help meet student and family needs
- Troubleshoots hearing aids and FM systems
- Develop and maintain caseload schedule in assigned districts
- Maintain individual student records to meet program, IMESD, state and federal requirements
Implementation:
- Completes contact logs for each student on a monthly basis
- Assist with the development and implementation of appropriate IFSPs/IEPs for eligible children and deaf/hard of hearing students
- Completes all federal and state mandated forms for each student
- Uses appropriate curriculums to facilitate student learning
- Facilitates hearing aid, FM system and other assistive listening device use, maintenance, repair and replacement
- Teaches students in one-to-one situations
- Manages cases, organizes IEP meetings; writes IEPs and leads IEP meetings for students with IEPs
- Participates collaboratively on a team to develop an integrate IFSP/IEP
- Identifies students’ needs and make recommendations on appropriate instructional and program changes and /or other supports to address student needs
- Writes, coordinates and implements IFSPs and IEPs
- Develops and implements alternative teaching strategies for students with additional learning needs
- Provides consultation to district staff, community agencies, families, and community partners
- Implements assistive technology as appropriate
Assessment and Use of Assessment Information:
- Use appropriate testing materials to evaluate students’ hearing loss levels and goal progress
- Assists with the administration of appropriate assessments to evaluate the child or student behavior and educational progress
- As a member of the IFSP/IEP teams, assimilates a variety of assessment data to provide a complete picture of student eligibility and programming needs
- Conducts evaluations to determine educational impact for hearing impairment eligibility
Communication:
- Effectively communicates assessment data and recommendations in a variety of ways, including report writing
- Communicates clearly and effectively in a variety of situations, including difficult ones, with agency staff, district staff, service providers and the public
- Communicates regularly with parents, classroom teachers, principals and case managers regarding students’ needs and goal progress
Professional Leadership and Conduct:
- Identifies and meets performance goals
- Works effectively as a team with other specialist (i.e. audiologist to ensure optimal student audtion)
- Creates a positive work environment by:

- Follow IMESD procedures, especially as outlined in the Staff Handbook, and assists staff to do the same

- Develop and implement training for staff
- Attends staff meetings and trainings
- Remains knowledgeable of state and federal special education requirements
- Keeps current on practices for working with deaf/hard of hearing students and on current technology available to aid hearing and communication ability
- Follows IMESD procedures, especially as outline in the Staff Handbook, and assists other staff to do the same
- Participates in developing and training building staff to implement behavior management plans for individual students
- Demonstrates leadership in guiding the IFSP/IEP team in determining eligibility for services
